A Sasser worm work around is possible by plugging UDP TCP port 445 within a dexterdyne thin server environment. You are encouraged to attempt this workaround in your own environment even if you are not operating a current Dexterdyne thin server model.

We are very pleased to release our new x86 / NT / W2K Simple Search Spider port for Matt Wright's most excellent Simple Search for Unix..

The Dexterdyne Simple Search Spider requires ActiveState Perl 5.6.1 (or better) for windows. Please review the technical overview and download our new free Search Spider to your own W2K webserver environment for test or production applications.

While our Simple Search port has been brought to alpha using our own Thin Windows 2000 Apache Server model - our search spider technology for Windows 2000 should function just as well on any current x86 Windows OS CPU with ActiveState Perl and a public Webserver with an operational cgi-bin..

If you choose to install our Dexterdyne Simple Search Port for x86 / NT / W2K in another server environment (say IIS) - and as this is a freebee for the greater Windows 2000 server community - we would very much appreciate any further technical details or feedback you have so we can beef up the overview page for the next webmaster who happens by..

MS / RealOne Bug Reported: If you are being asked to 'save or open' *.RAM files in Explorer - you may have a small bug in your 'File Types' settings.

Simply go to your file explorer menu. Open - Tools> Folder Options> File Types> - scroll down to .RAM - hit the change button and pick Explorer - then hit the Restore button. Everything is Jake if the RealOne icon appears - close and you are done.

Here is a fairly bad 'how to' streaming windows player (100kbs) screen capture video. Flag me if you are still not getting anywhere

Test e-transmitter sites are advised that there is a new W2K Apache version (2.35) available - e-transmitters installed on Apache 2.28 or below should update and install their servers now. We have completed beta testing here and can recommend the new version as stable. Updating may depreciate your 2.28 "Test Configuration" Windows workaround - we are building a new 2.35 version shortly and will alert you shortly as it GA's.

03/20/2002:
We have GA'd a Test Configuration workaround for Apache 2.28 which will allow you to run configuration test routines from your windows program menu - it is available freely for download. Please be advised it is not a Apache.org sanctioned workaround nor is likely to be given that 2.35 is currently being released. However, we have released it as GA to dexterdyne e-transmitters to close several service requests regarding erroneous"..apache: illegal option -- w.. " error.

Macromedia Flash
Allwebmenus

Flash Menus
M&E Site Clients should be advised that we are depreciating all current javascript menu builds and unless otherwise specifically requested - we will be only offering new website clients Flash version 4/5 based menus. This does not mean that your javascript menu (backended by Allwebmenus) is obsolete - however it does mean that we will be moving development focus to Flash based menus in the coming year when possible.

There are several reasons behind this move - not the least of which is that we are able to achieve more reliable UID's using Flash based objects and (perhaps more importantly) our research to date indicates Flash menu systems provide all the same functionality at about 1/8 the server loading and across several more browser platforms (some of which may currently experience display failures using Allwebmenus).

The downside is that while the Allwebmenus javascript service wizard is available for approx. $50.00usd - the Flash tool is currently priced around the $400.00usd mark. So while the cost of Macromedia Flash is a little exorbitant to our minds too - it remains a remarkable product for thin, scalable, vector based graphic production and well worth your time to investigate if you are administering a dexterdyne site.

This change in our build policy should not affect your particular site in any way as it stands now and we will continue to provide support for Allmenus builds as dictated by your Maintenance and Enhancement agreement and our commitment to dexterdyne website and/or e-transmitters worldwide. However, given the advancement in Flash technology - we expect that most if not all our M&E group will be updated within the year.

Please forward your comments for review..
